If I recall, January, 2006 was when the Republicans controlled both Houses of the Congress and the president was a Republican named Bush. Now it's December, 2009 and the Democrats control both Houses of Congress and the president is a Democrat named Obama.

Obama and the Republicans
HORSLEY: That's right. Even before he took office, President Obama was lobbying hard for Congress to pass a big economic stimulus bill. He promised that $787 billion measure would save or create some three-and-a-half million jobs.
Unfortunately, since this recession began, the economy has lost about twice that many jobs. So, even if the stimulus delivers - and there are signs that it is delivering - a lot of people are still going to be out of work. The unemployment rate has been climbing for most of the past year, and Republicans, who were almost unanimously against the stimulus, have been using that to beat up on the president. (Emphasis mine.)
The above quote comes from an NPR interview--and if the stimulus seems to be working, then join the Obama team, Republicans, and make it work better. Beating up on the president doesn't accomplish anything.

Obama and civil liberties: We have free speech again--you can talk against Obama (I recently saw a sticker of a child peeing on Obama's name on the window of a car and no one threatens to arrest the driver) because no one comes to your door and tells you to stop. The media can write against Obama and they are not kicked out of the press room. You can protest without worrying about homeland security bugging your home. You can take out library books and not worry about them being reported to the federal government because that provision of the law passed under Bush is not even in Obama's vocabulary.
Once again we have a president who does what he says he will do--uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Health Reform Plans--Bush and Obama
In 2003, the Republicans passed a very expensive deficit making health plan--and now--because they are hypocrites (one of the Republican senators actually used that word to describe the Republicans who voted for the bill) they cannot support the Obama Administration health plan--which is cheaper.
Here is the quote from the article:
"Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, said those who see hypocrisy "can legitimately raise that issue." But he defended his positions in 2003 and now, saying the economy is in worse shape and Americans are more anxious."
And another quote: "Six years ago, "it was standard practice not to pay for things," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. "We were concerned about it, because it certainly added to the deficit, no question." His 2003 vote has been vindicated, Hatch said, because the prescription drug benefit "has done a lot of good."" (Emphasis mine.)
So when it's Republican backed--even when it raises the deficit--it's OK.

And to quote one other senator: "Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, said simply: "Dredging up history is not the way to move forward."
Yes, it is. When a nation refuses to listen to history, it continues to repeat it over and over and over. History teaches us lessons. Sen. Snowe, pay attention.

Obama--A Hard Working President
Unlike nap time Reagan and don't have a clue Bush, President Obama is probably the hardest working president. At the recent climate change conference, he did not give up until a compromise was passed. The end result of the conference may not be perfect--but Obama made it happen.

The Housing Crisis
Under the George Bush administration, housing crashed. And it crashed hard.
Almost a year into Obama's administration, housing is turning around.
"WASHINGTON — New construction on U.S. housing units rebounded in November after dropping sharply in the previous month, and analysts said the upward trend would continue as long as tax breaks for first-time home buyers remain in place.
"Starts rose 8.9 percent in November to a seasonally adjusted 574,000 annualized units, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. This was stronger than the 563,000 pace expected by economists surveyed by MarketWatch.
"The strong data gave the stock market a lift in early trading."

What Obama has Accomplished
Under former President George Bush the stock market plunged into the 6000 range, gas spiraled upwards to over four dollars in some places (where I live it reached $3.50), and unemployment began its rise to dangerous levels.
Eleven months into Obama's presidency--stocks are now back in the 10,000's, gas is nowhere near three dollars anywhere (where I live it's not even $2.40)) and unemployment is finally beginning to hold steady and, in fact, drop.
